The
Problem

– 13.5 percent (18.0 million of U.S households we’re food insecure at some time during 2023. This percentage was slightly higher than the previous year in 2022, of 12.8 percent.

– 60% of children across the United States spend 8-10 hours daily in programs and many without access to healthy food.

– There is no united policy for Early Learning programs to follow governing the activities and nutrition of children, promoting healthy lifestyle. It up to each program to make arrangements on how and what they see fit to provide for meals during their service hours.

The
Solution

– Shaping food selections and eating habits of young children in Early Learning environments by supplying made-from-scratch meals to Early Learning programs.

– Connecting the Early Child Care community in wellness-related activities through a mentorship program that offers training hours related to nutrition and wellness of young children.

OUR STORY

5 Loaves Food Company was started in a very personal way. CEO Ms. Whitaker’s love and compassion for children over her 10 years of experience in various early education teaching environments went far beyond daily activities. She took a special interest in supporting the entire child, teaching healthy habits and integrating good meals into the lives of young children ages 1- 12 years.
In 2016 after competing in a local Social Enterprise Pitch competition run by Assets and Lancaster Community Foundation, Ms. Whitaker founded 5 Loaves Food Company, LLC with the vision to impact the lives of all children by supplying programs with fresh meals daily.

WHAT MAKES US A GOOD FIT?

  • We utilize the United States Department of Agriculture suggested food guide, My Plate, that suggests children be served fruits, veggies, protein, and grains.

  • We partner with local organizations, higher education, college & high school students, and parents, on advocating for change related to unhealthy food consumption, and lack of food access of children.
  • We change our menus to expose children children to different food experiences, and hopefully expand their palates.

  • We make your program’s food prep convenient, children healthier and community more sustainable!
